Resin tails overturn common sense in the jigging world.
Create a “pause” at will to get fish to bite. The hybrid jig “caruREAR” was born!
A hybrid jig “caruREAR” composed of lead and resin was born by Aqua Wave in the fall of 2024. The most important thing is to easily create a “horizontal posture” and a “bite-inducing pause”. Here, we would like to explain in detail the concept behind its development, how it is used in actual fishing, and how it can be used as a hybrid jig.

The answer to the “pause” that makes fish take a bite
For example, a fish will attack the moment a jig is lifted and the jig suddenly turns horizontally. In jigging, there are many such situations when fish are preying. How can we keep the fish in the feeding interval for a longer period of time? We thought, “What if we changed the tail part from lead to resin? That’s when I decided to make the caruREAR,” commented Yoshiyasu Minato, who is in charge of jig development at Aqua Wave, during the video shooting interview.
Aqua Wave’s first jigging product to be released this season is a hybrid jig made of lead and resin called “caruREAR. The specific gravity of the tail was made much lighter by making the rear part made of resin, and as a result, the caruREAR has the ability to quickly turn horizontally even at very short intervals between jerking. When you jerk, the jig jumps up diagonally, and the moment you stop jerking, it instantly goes into a horizontal position, a “pause” for biting.
Shinya Ishii, a field tester for Aqua Wave, said, “When I heard that the product was ready and used it in field tests, I felt that it would catch fish. The fact that the rear is made of resin keeps the lure in the fall posture,” he said, expressing his satisfaction.
Tension fall and free fall behavior
In fact, when I checked the fall behavior of caruREAR in the water with an underwater camera, I found that when I jerked, the jig jumped upward at an angle in the water, then smoothly shifted to a horizontal posture as if drawing a parabola, and the next moment it fell while maintaining a straight horizontal posture with a fluttering motion. The next moment, it fell while keeping a straight horizontal line.
With a certain amount of tension on the line, this kind of behavior of falling while maintaining a horizontal posture like leaves on a tree. There was no waste of movement as it shifted to a horizontal position from the moment of bouncing up. Mr. Minato’s goal of creating a “pause” between the bait and the bite, which is created by the light density of the resin tail, was well realized in this case.
On the other hand, when the lure is free-falling without line tension after jerking, the jig, which is facing horizontally, slides horizontally quickly with a “squeak, squeak, squeak” motion to appeal to the angler. It can be controlled by the way line tension is applied.
The Joy of Fishing with Flexible Control of the Jig
The fall posture of the jig is very beautiful, and when dropped in a free-fall motion, the jig has a ‘fast fall’ effect. If the target fish is active and the fall speed is too fast, you can create a pause by using a tension fall that falls slowly. The biggest advantage of this jig is that anglers can use different fall actions. With ordinary jigs, the fall is usually left to the jig, but with this jig, the biggest advantage is that the angler can create the fall action on his own,” said Ishii.
On the other hand, Mr. Minato says, “Even while jerking, the jig is designed to turn horizontally every pitch, so you can always create a ‘pause’ to get the fish to bite. So I want anglers to be consciously aware of this jig’s behavior when using it, and to make good use of it to create a ‘pause’ to get the fish to bite. The ideal pattern is for a fish to come on at this timing! is the ideal pattern. The fact that a single jig can be used in a variety of arrangements means that it can be used in a variety of situations. A jig that has a certain performance is strong when the fish like its movement, but it is difficult to continue to produce fish throughout the day. However, with a model that can be rearranged, it is possible to respond with movements that suit the time and the situation.
The “free rolling” appeal of the tail waving jerkily was very appealing.
In addition to jerking and falling, anglers can also create appealing movements. That is the “free rolling” method.
Of course, regular jerking is good, but the “free rolling” action is also very effective in getting fish to use their mouths, because the lightweight rear part of the lure makes the tail wagging jerkily and appealingly.
I have an image of greater amberjack biting ferociously when the lure is reeled in fast, or when the butt is wiggled firmly, or when it has a clear action. On the other hand, they will often use their mouths if you show them how to fall and fall firmly. I often use a slow fall pattern. In such a case, caruREAR is perfect. It swims with its butt waving even when reeling fast, and of course, the fall is the essence of Carlia, so you can show it to the fish and make the fish use its mouth. It is especially effective when the fish are not biting,” commented Mr. Ishii.
A jig that feels overwhelmingly light. New Possibilities
What is even more remarkable about this jig is its overwhelmingly light weight, which means that even after a full day of fishing, it does not tire easily.
In addition, the specific gravity balance and posture of the jig make the reeling resistance feel much lighter than that of ordinary jigs. During the actual fishing test, we mainly used a 200 g jig throughout the day, but it actually felt as if we were using a 120 g or 130 g jig. When jigging, the fact that you don’t get tired is the biggest advantage of all,” said Ishii. If the jerk is light, the angler is less likely to get tired and lose concentration. And it is easy to use for everyone.
“It is a jig that is not so common in the world.
I hope people will explore various ways of using this jig because there are not many jigs like it in the world. I think it can probably be used in completely different ways by different people. I think it would be very interesting to find your own golden pattern or something like that as you use it,” says Minato. It would be interesting to explore new possibilities for jigging with the caruREAR.
Incidentally, there is a lineup of four weight variations: 100g, 120g, 150g, and 200g. It will be available in a total of 10 colors. We hope you will try out the power of this new hybrid jig.
