Unique sounds that turn on carnivorous fish

Finally completed after 2 years of development to make it compatible with big game! Shimano / Screwdrive 180F/180F Flash Boost

After two years of field testing, Shimano's new Screwdrive 180 F/180F Flash Boost is set to be released this year. This lure can be used for long periods of time because it can produce action with just free reeling, and the tail prop always catches and rotates on the surface of the sea, so error action is unlikely to occur even in rough conditions. This model is unfamiliar among offshore lures, many of which have simple shapes. Let's find out what kind of features it has.

Finally completed after 2 years of development to make it compatible with big game! Shimano / Screwdrive 180F/180F Flash Boost

Lures for big game fishing have entered a new stage.

There is no disagreement that diving pencils and poppers are the staple lures for big game such as sunfish, GT, and tuna. The Shimmer is expected to be the newest addition to these lures. The Screwdrive, a prop bait that took Shimano two years to develop, is expected to be a new addition to these lures.

Unlike “swisher” lures, which have a prop set into the body as a part of the lure, this prop bait has a rotating part of the body and is known as a freshwater lure for targeting muskies and pike, and is also used as a lure for big bass. Some anglers secretly use it as a favorite lure for big bass.
The most distinctive feature of the prop bait is its unique sound. However, it is impossible to use a freshwater prop bait offshore. They are not strong enough, and they do not fly far enough. However, the prop bait had enough appeal to clear these two factors at any cost and release it.

The size is 180 mm, weight is 114 g. The normal model comes in six colors: Maiwashi, OCEA bait, White Mirror, A Orange, Matte Chart, and T Keimuratobiwa. The Flash Boost model comes in two colors: T Sardine Mint and ST Clear.

The front design is designed to catch floating water to the prop without waste.

A wire runs from the front to the tail. This has overcome concerns about its strength. It has cleared Shimano’s own strict strength standards for offshore casting.

Tail center of gravity prevents error action

The action is based on the prop set at the rear end of the body grabbing the water and rotating to generate a unique sound that appeals to predatory fish, while at the same time pulling bubbles that appeal to their presence. When the lure is reeled in without any action, it continues to produce sound and bubbles, but by jerking the lure, it is possible to attract predatory fish by making a loud sound with a momentary violent splash and gobobbing. The biggest advantage of the screw drive is that it can be used as a rear lure.

The greatest advantage of the screw drive is its rear weight, which keeps the prop in contact with the surface of the water, making it difficult to jump out of the water even in rough water. This allows the angler to use it in all kinds of situations without stress.

Even in rough water, the props will keep the lure in contact with the surface of the water, so it will continue to produce sound and bubbles.

Two sizes of prop fins are included.

My guess is that what was more difficult than the strength aspect in the development was to reduce the aerodynamic drag of the prop when casting and to produce sufficient flying distance. However, when the product was commercialized, this was successfully resolved.
Shimano instructor Seiichiro Tashiro even says, “Because of its good flight posture, the flying distance is not so different compared to that of a diving pencil.”

The product comes with two types of prop fins, normal and large, which can be easily replaced. When the normal size is used, it is suitable for high-speed reeling and effective for targeting sunfish. When the large size is used, the lure is more appealing at low speeds and can be effectively lured by jerking. This creates an effective action when you want to appeal to tuna and GT with pinpoint accuracy.

The prop fins can be easily replaced, which broadens the range of enjoyment of the lure.

The design of the prop and tail stabilizes the lure’s posture in flight, and it boasts casting performance comparable to that of a diving pencil.

A lure that can be reeled in simply and can be used in different ways by changing its parts; one lure has two different appeals!
